Remarks made by SL players following test victory "unacceptable" : Minister Ranatunga

News

Minister Arjuna Ranatunga has said that the remarks made by the Sri Lankan cricketers inside the dressing room following their recent victory cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

"The individual who recorded the incident and posted it on social media should be arrested and punished" he told reporters today (Feb 18) adding that it was a testament to the declining disciplinary values of the team.

"We too had several internal discussions not only after we won a match but after we lost one as well. But it was never released to the public. We followed an ethical conduct" remarked Mr. Ranatunga. He also said that if he was in the cricketing administration he would uncover the individual who recorded the video and take action against him.

The one-time world cup winning captain also lashed out at the team by stating that they need not to be over excited and toe the line simply because they won one match.

"The reason for such behaviour is due to the involvement of match fixers in the sport" he claimed.

While also claiming that Sri Lanka cricket has now become a game of bookies he said that he would eradicate such acts after registering a victory at the forthcoming SLC elections.

Mr. Ranatunga made this remarks following an observation visit to the Ratmalana railway yard today.
