The special committee which was appointed to investigate into the proposed 'Sharia University' in the East, will submit its report to Parliament during the first week of July, parliamentarian Ashu Marasinghe said.
MP Marasinghe, who is also a member of the committee, told a news conference yesterday (May 20) that an investigation is being carried out into the construction of the campus which has spurred controversy in the recent past.
He noted that the son of Eastern Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah - who now serves as the Chairman of the campus, has also been questioned by the Special Committee.
The committee is expected to propose that the university be brought under the purview of the government as a private university and be named as the Batticaloa Technical College, parliamentarian Marasinghe said.
