The request to extradite former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran has been received and is being considered by the Attorney General (AG)'s Department in Singapore, AG's Co-ordinating Officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said.
A 21,000 page document had been handed over to the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore, after it had been signed by President Maithripala Sirisena, seeking to extradite the former central bank chief.
Mahendran is a main suspect accused of causing massive losses to the government by illegally issuing treasury bonds of the Central Bank in 2015.
He has been evading arrest in Singapore in the backdrop of court warrants and an INTERPOL alerts issued for his arrest.
