Area residents who demanded that the Kalmunai North Divisional Secretariat must be made an independent body, voiced opposition against politicians who visited the area yesterday (Jun 21).
It is reported that parliamentarians Daya Gamage and M.A Sumanthiran had visited the area in which a hunger strike has been taking place demanding that land areas and financial powers be vested with the Divisional body.
However, the parliamentarians had to be escorted out of the area amidst police protection since the public had protested against their arrival.
On the contrary, Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) leader Mano Ganesan had visited with the protestors since they had not voiced opposition against him.
Meanwhile, another Satyagraha campaign is being carried out in the area against the moves to establish the Kalmunai North Divisional Secretariat as an independent body.
Earlier this week, Internal and Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena stated that this issue would be resolved within three months.
