A section of the New Weligama area in the Hatton-Bogawantalawa main road has sunk into to the Castlereigh reservoir this morning due to the heavy showers experienced in the area yesterday.
Police say that no casualties were reported due to the forewarning issued to the area residents.
However, it is reported that four houses have sunk into the reservoir while a few buildings have been damaged.
The incident has hampered transportation in the area, according to the Police.
Therefore, those travelling to Maskeliya from Hatton are advised to travel via the Norton route while those travelling towards Bogawantalawa from Hatton will be able to travel via Dikkoya .
