A sum of Rs 1 million will be allocated for each athlete in the Northern Province who qualifies for the All-Island Inter-School Athletics Meet, Governor Suren Raghavan said.
These funds would be used to provide sporting wear, nutrition, and other needs as required by the athletes, a spokesman for the Governor told Times Online.
Northern Governor Raghavan had made these remarks while addressing the final day of the Provincial Inter-School Athletic Meet as the Chief Guest at the Duraippah Stadium in Jaffna this week.
He had emphasised the need to identify and resolve the challenges faced by the athletes in order to uplift the Northern Province from its existing sixth rank among all provinces.
