The delay in implementing the second stage of the Norochcholai coal power plant is costing the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) a loss of Rs 250 million on a daily basis, Minister of Power and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera stated.
The minister made the claim during a meeting between the CEB, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka and the Sustainable Energy Authority to discuss the two power generation projects due to be implemented this year as well as projects due to be implemented next year, the Ministry of Power and Energy said in a media release.
The Minister noted that the second phase of the Norochcholai power plant as well as the Kerawalapitiya LNG power plant project are due to commence this year. He asked all three stakeholders in the power sector to work together to begin construction of the second stage of the Norochcholai power plant project soon.
