Fines amounting to Rs 254 million have been collected from drunk drivers under a special police operation which began in July, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
According to the Spokesman, 10,024 drivers have been arrested until todate (Aug 23) since the operation to crackdown on drunk drivers began on July 5.
The special exercise is expected to take place throughout the year.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
