The Government has decided to utilize Rs 700 million from the Indian Credit line for renewable energy projects.
A senior official of the Ministry of Power and Energy said that the funds will be used for solar power projects and windmill projects under the plan.
In addition another Rs 100 million will be allocated to set up solar panels to provide power requirements for Samurdhi beneficiaries. Some 3000 families will benefit from the scheme.
The Ministry also has decided that 70 per cent of the proposed power projects next year should be environmentally friend projects.
During President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s maiden visit to India Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged a credit line amounting to US $ 400 million (Rs 72 billion).
