The diamond which was claimed to have been valued at Rs 5 billion and was stolen in Maharagama will be subjected to a valuation test on Monday (Mar 11).
Officers attached to the Peliyagoda police will send the diamond to the Gem and Jewellery authority to determine the real value of the recovered item.
However, legal action would be taken against the individual who brought the gem into the country if its real value was confirmed to be Rs 5 billion since the government was not notified regarding such an import.
The diamond was recovered last week along with two suspects in Maharagama.
