The verdict on the Attorney General (AG)'s revision petition against the release of two top officials accused of failing to prevent the terrorist attacks, will be delivered on October 9, the Colombo High Court announced today (Sept 20).
The AG had filed a petition seeking to suspend the Colombo Chief Magistrate's order to release former defence secretary Hemasiri Fernando and police chief Pujith Jayasundara on bail.
Charges including that of murder have been filed against Mr. Fernando and Mr. Jayasundara, by the AG, for allegedly ignoring intelligence warnings of the Easter Sunday attacks which killed more than 250 persons and left more than 150 injured.
However, Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne, in July, ordered the suspects to be released on bail, while dismissing certain charges against them citing lack of evidence.
