Ruwan inspects vessels being built for Sri Lanka Navy in India

State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene inspected the progress of the two Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessels being built for Sri Lanka Navy at Goa Shipyards Ltd in India yesterday.

Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Chrishantha De Silva were also present at the occasion.

State Minister and Secretary made the above inspection while participating on tour to attend the Defence Expo 2016 in Goa.

Cordial discussions were also held between Sri Lanka defence delegation and Chairman and Managing Director of Goa Shipyards Ltd, Rear Admiral (Retd) Shekar Mittal along with the shipyard officials on the progress of the ship building process.

They also visited an almost completed similar type APOV being built for the Indian Coast Guard to see the facilities and equipment fitted on board. The first AOPV is scheduled to join the SLN fleet in August 2017 and the second one year after.
