The Health Ministry states that salons and beauty parlours that have been temporarily closed on account of COVID-19 cannot reopen until they obtain a certificate certifying that they are adhering to a set of guidelines issued by the Health Ministry.
Issuing a media release, the ministry states that salons and beauty parlours cannot reopen by simply adhering to health sector guidelines that have been issued to the wider public. "A set of specific health guidelines for salons and beauty parlours signed by the Director General of Health Services will be issued soon. Thereafter, owners of salons and beauty parlours must obtain the set of guidelines from the respective Medical Officer of Health (MOH) in the area where their business premises is situated. They are then required to prepare their business premises according to the guidelines that have been set out," the ministry explained.
Once the premises has been prepared accordingly, the owner must inform the MOH, who will in turn send the area Public Health Inspector (PHI) to inspect the premises. The PHI will go through the check list needed for the premises to be declared suitable to reopen and send his recommendations to the MOH. The MOH will consider the recommendations and if satisfied, will issue a certificate certifying the premises fit to reopen, it noted.
"No salon or beauty parlour in the country can reopen without first obtaining this certificate," the ministry stressed.
