The Constitutional Council (CC) has agreed to appoint Saman Sri Rathnayake as the Elections Commissioner General with effect from tomorrow (Oct 15), sources said.
Rathnayake had been serving in that position on a temporary basis, while holding office as the Director General of the Elections Secretariat.
However, the Election Commission had recently forwarded certain names to the CC seeking to appoint an individual as a permanent Elections Commissioner-General, in line with the presidential election.
The CC had approved the name of Mr Rathnayake during its meeting today.
