The Supreme Court today (Jul 23) ordered the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to register 30 students who have a medical degree from an accepted foreign university and have passed the qualifying Act-16 examination.
A petition had been filed by 16 foreign medical graduates claiming that their fundamental rights had been violated since the SLMC has continuously refused to register them.
The judge bench ordered that the SLMC must register students who have graduated from an accepted foreign medical university within 30 days of issuing the ruling.
Justices Prasanna Jayawardena, L.T.B. Dehideniya, and Murdu Fernando comprised the judge bench which heard the petition at the Supreme Court.
