Schools which require special equipment to implement security measures will be able to request the Education Ministry to grant such devices from next week onwards, Education Secretary Nihal Ranasinghe told Times Online.
Mr. Ranasinghe noted that the Education Ministry would then conduct an assessment on schools and if they find the requests to be in keeping with their own risk assessments, the necessary equipment will be provided.
Accordingly, school Principals and officials will be able to request the Ministry for equipment such as CCTV cameras, body scanners and other devices which could assist in strengthening security arrangements.
Further, the Education Ministry has also expressed willingness to assist in the process of setting-up Special Security Divisions in schools to ensure security within the school premises.
School for primary students is set to re-open from next Monday onwards.
