The Colombo High Court today ordered the release of a ministerial security officer who was arrested and remanded in connection to shooting an individual and injuring two others during an incident which took place last October at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation headquarters in Dematagoda.
The Colombo High Court issued this order after considering a revision petition filed by the suspect.
Accordingly, the Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi ordered that the suspect be released on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and two personal bails of Rs. 1000,000 each. While the suspect was also banned from travelling overseas.
On October 28, the officer attached to Ministerial security division accompanied Minister Arjuna Ranatunga to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation headquarters. During an unexpected tense situation that erupted at the headquarters the officer acted to protect Minister Ranatunga.
