Sri Lanka’s Airline and airport regulator, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has had discussions with the Board of Airline Representatives (BAR) and their staff on creating awareness on preventive measures against the outbreak of the coronavirus.
At the airport, all aircraft flying in from China have been allocated separate parking bays as well, BAR Chairman Dimuthu Tennakoon told Times Online adding that they were likely to witness a drop in air travel to and from China but at present no airline has so far pulled out of its operations from this route.
CAA Chairman G.A. Chandrasiri and Director General H.M.C. Nimalsiri, at Monday’s meeting, had informed and educated the airline staff and airline managers on how to protect themselves against the virus and measures to be adopted in handling passengers, he noted.
CAA has distributed sanitizers and masks to all at the airport and all customer touch points and has taken all measures at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to prevent the virus from spreading. (SD)
