Seven local fishermen who were engaging in illegal harvesting of sea cucumbers in North of Irukkulampiddi in Mannar arrested by the Naval personnel attached to SLNS Thammanna in North Central Naval Command, the Navy said.
A haul of 40 kg of Sea Cucumbers, harvested illegally, seven diving masks, five pairs of diving fins and a Fiber Glass Dingy were also taken into custody during the arrest. The arrested persons along with five fishing gears and the haul of Sea Cucumbers were handed over to the Assistant Director Fisheries – Mannar for further action.
