The naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijayaba in Nilaveli, Eastern Naval Command arrested seven local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing activities using explosive in the sea area North of Erakkandi on Tuesday.
Along with the suspects 2 dinghies, 3 pairs of diving fins, a banned fishing net (Monofilament Net) and oxygen cylinders were also taken in to the naval custody. The apprehended persons and the belongings were handed over to Kuchchaweli Police through Area Fisheries Inspector for onward legal action.
