A 17-year old student passed a way in Beruwala yesterday (Nov 25) following a brawl with another student on Nov 21.
It is reported that the victim who was a Head prefect at school had pointed out to a 15-year old student that the latter's uniform was not in accordance with the regulations of the school. This is said to have escalated into an argument and eventually into fisticuffs.
The incident had taken place just before the Third Term Examination had commenced at school.
Both students had attempted their examinations during which the victim had complained to his class teacher that he was feeling unwell. He was then given a painkiller to ease the pain. Police say that the victim who had headed home following the exam had not notified his parents about the incident.
The victim, who had fallen asleep at home was admitted to the Kalutara hospital and then transferred to Nagoda hospital since he had not woken up.
It is reported that he passed away while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Nagoda Hospital.
The victim has been identified as Mohamed Thariq.
The student who had carried out the assault is now under the custody of the Beruwala police.
