Sabaragamuwa Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa through an extraordinary
gazette has appointed retired High Court Judge Rohana Anura Kumara to
probe the Chairman of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha Chandana Kumara
Jayawandala.
“I, Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province, do
hereby appoint, Hon. Herath Mudiyanselage, Retired High Court Judge, as a
single person tribunal of inquiry by virtue of powers vested in me by
the provisions of Section 154 (C) of the constitution of the Democratic
Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and in accordance with the provisions of
section 185(2) of Pradeshiya Sabha Act, No. 15 of 1987 and the Provincial
(Consequential Provisions) Act, No. 12 of 1989, to inquire and submit me a
report within three months from the date of this notification based on any
wrongful act stated in section 185(1) of Pradeshiya Sabha Act, No.15 of
1987, while executing the functions of the Chairman of the Mawanella
Pradeshiya Sabhawa, Mr. Handunkutti Pedige Chandana Kumara
Jayawandala,” the gazette stated.
The gazette further stated that the retired high court judge has the powers of
the commission appointed under the relevant Commissions of Inquiry Act to
conduct this inquiry.
