Share prices rose in early trade on Monday at the Colombo bourse as brokers and investors basked in the glory of a presidential victory by Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Mr. Rajapaksa, an opposition candidate, won a resounding victory at Saturday’s presidential poll. Brokers and analysts had predicted on Friday that the market would gain irrespective of who won the election.
The All Share Price Index gained by 106.81 points or 1.76 per cent to 6,129.20 after around 15 minutes of trading while the selective SAP SL20 rose by 89.42 points or 2.99 per cent to 3,075.94. Share prices were expected to gain further during the day.
