Gun shots were fired at a group of supporters of the New Democratic Front (NDF) candidate Maithripala Sirisena while they were decorating a stage for a election rally in Kahawatta, police said. Atleast three people have been hospitalized. A group of unidentified persons arrived in six vehicles at the venue and opened fire at the supporters. Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that the incident took place in the early hours of today and four suspects have been identified.
