The Meteorology Department said due to an atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, cloudy skies can be expected particularly in the southern half of the island. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Eastern, Uva, Central and Southern provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will develop elsewhere in the afternoon and night. Very heavy falls (around 150 mm) are also likely at some places.
"There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity," the department said.
