The prevailing showery conditions over the island is expected to enhance, particularly in the south-western part of the island, the Meteorology Department said.
Showers or thunder showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Southern and Central provinces.
Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely in areas such as Sabaragamuwa province and in Kalutara, Galle, Matara and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Accordingly, showers or thunder showers may occur at a few places in Uva and Eastern provinces in the evening or night.
The sea areas extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa to via Pottuvil and from Negombo to Mannar via Puttalam can be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be fairly rough at times.
Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota district.
Winds will be South-westerly in direction in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph and can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa to Pottuvil and from Negombo to Mannar via Puttalam.
The Meteorology Department further advises the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity and localized strong winds during thundershowers..
