Six persons were killed when a van ran off the road and hit a tree at Lunugamvehera in the Hambantota district in the early hours of today, Police said.
Three others injured in the accident are in a serious condition.
Police said that the driver had lost control of the vehicle travelling at high speed on the Kataragama - Lunugamvehera when the accident occured around 1.45 am.
They were residents of Unawatuna, Galle.
