Six persons have been arrested for violating a court order barring individuals from entering Lacto Watta in Wanathavilluwa, where ammunition had been recovered in January.
The arrest had been carried out upon information received by the Police Emergency Unit at around 2 am today (Jul 24).
Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers had previously recovered a haul of ammunition including detonators and raw material used to manufacture bombs. It was later learned that the ammunition belonged to the bombers involved in the April 21 terrorist attacks.
Court had then issued an interim order barring any person from entering the land area, except for its owner.
Among the suspects, arrested today were two persons who had been apprehended and granted bail in January.
However, the suspects had claimed that they had stayed in the estate due to a mechanical failure in their vehicle when they had arrived to clean a pen in the area.
Wanathavilluwa police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
