Six supporters of Hirunika sentenced over abduction case

Six supporters of MP Hirunika Premachandra who pleaded guilty to charges of abducting an individual in Dematagoda were sentenced to two years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI), suspended for 12 years by the Colombo High Court today.

High Court Judge R. Gurusinghe also imposed a fine of Rs.32, 000 on each of the defendants and ordered them to pay Rs285, 000 in compensation to the victim.

One of the accused in the case, who is a minor, was not sentenced by court and was released on a bond of Rs.100, 000. 

MP Hirunika Premachandra however, earlier pled not guilty to the charges and as such, her case will be taken up for hearing at a later date.
