Sixteen persons who attempted to illegally migrate to Australia by boat have been apprehended in Wennappuwa yesterday (Aug 20).
The arrest had been made between 12:30 am and 1:30 am at a residence when the group had been preparing to leave by boat.
A lorry and four life jackets had been seized from the suspects at the time of the arrest.
The suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigations
