The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) politburo will meet under its leader former President Maithripala Sirisena today (Nov 18), SLFP Acting Chairman Professor Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa said.
Prof. Piyadasa was appointed acting chairman after Sirisena declared he would remain impartial during the presidential election.
The SLFP formed an alliance with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and supported its candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who emerged victorious, securing 52.2 percent of the total votes.
Both parties will contest next year's parliamentary election under the common banner of the Sri Lanka People’s Freedom Alliance (SLPFA).
During today’s politburo meeting, the SLFP will discuss matters concerning their future political activities, and also issues concerning the premiership.
