The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will seek legal opinion to fill the Parliamentary seat of Salinda Dissanayake which fell vacant after his demise, SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara said.
Mr. Jayasekara explained that former Provincial Minister H.M.D.B. Herath whose name was gazetted to fill the vacancy, could not be accepted since he is a member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
The SLPP has not been identified as a recognized party in Parliament.
The SLFP General Secretary pointed out that MP Dissanayake who passed away last month represented the SLFP from the Kurunegala District and that a member of the same party must be nominated to the vacant seat.
Mr. Herath's name had been approved by the Kurunegala District's Returning Officer following which it had been gazetted by the Elections Commission.
