The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC), the approving body for foreign medical courses to be recognised in Sri Lanka, on Wednesday said that the University of Aberdeen – Sri Lanka Medical Pathway is not recognized by the SLMC “in order to fulfill the requirements for registration to practice medicine and surgery in Sri Lanka”.
The SLMC announcement was conveyed in an advertisement in a local newspaper. A Sri Lankan hospital company is behind plans to offer this private medical degree attached to a UK university, a move which has been criticised by the Government Medical Officers Association.
