The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has urged authorities to expedite investigations into the allegations levelled against Kurunegala Teaching hospital doctor Dr Mohamed Shafi.
Issuing a press release, SLMC President Dr. Anula Wijesundere also requested those in the medical fraternity to refrain from making irresponsible statements regarding this issue.
Meanwhile, a group of protestors lined outside the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital to protest against Dr. Shafi who is currently being questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The protestors also raised questions as to why the authorities did not take action against Dr. Shafi who is alleged to have sterlised 4000 women while performing a cesarian section. Area residents along with Buddhist monks in the area took part in the protest.
