The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has requested action be taken against presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa’s visit on a monk engaged in a hunger fast, this morning.
Premadasa had visited Ven. Dr. Inguruwatte Sumangala Thera who had staged the protest demanding presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to prove he is not a US citizen.
Dullas Alahapperuma, the spokesman for SLPP candidate Rajapaksa, pointed out that this had been done at 12:30 am – 30 minutes past the cut-off time for election campaigning.
“Our media centre has observed that this meeting had been live streamed on social media,” Alahapperuma said in a letter to Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya.
The spokesman said he believes that this had been done in violation of the guidelines set out by the EC against such campaigning activities which are banned 48 hours before the poll.
“We request you take action and prevent the misuse of media by Sajith Premadasa’s faction,” the letter read.
