The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has warned that it would file objections if the President seeks a Supreme Court ruling on when his term began.
"According to the constitution, a law which has been passed in Parliament cannot be challenged in any court," SLPP Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris told a news conference this afternoon.
He opined that seeking a supreme court ruling in this regard was a "useless action".
Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardena told the press that the party would condemn any effort taken by the President to extend his term since he had come into power by saying otherwise.
He called on the government to conduct the presidential elections on time and safeguard the people's voting franchise.
