So far eight deposits made to contest Presidential poll
Eight individuals have made their cash deposits by yesterday (Sept 26) to contest the upcoming presidential election, the Election Commission said.
Among the candidates, five are from recognized political parties while three are independent candidates. The candidates who have made their deposits are as follows ;
Recognised parties
- Dr. Ajantha Perera - Socialist Party
- Prasanna Perera - Ape Jana Balaya party
- Gotabhaya Rajapaksa - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna
- Ariyawansa Dissanayake - Democratic United National Front
- Sirithunga Jayasuriya - United Socialist Party
Independent candidates
- Ven. Aparakke Punyananda Thero - Independent candidate
- Jayantha Ketagoda – Independent candidate
- Siripala Amarasinghe – Independent candidate
The presidential poll is to be held on November 16 while the closing date to accept nominations is October 7.
