An Integrated Social Welfare Register, based on beneficiaries NIC Nos has been prepared incorporating details of all social welfare handouts distributed from Ministries, Provincial Councils and Local Authorities by the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs.
According to the Government Information Department, the program implemented through the Department of Project Management and Monitoring, and with ICTA currently has uploaded about 80% of data to the system and further refining is in progress.
Once the program is completed, it will be very useful in streamlining social welfare handouts, better targeting and reducing ‘ghost’ beneficiaries, if any. The introduction of the “Adhaar” program in India, with a unique number for all social payment beneficiaries, has resulted in substantial elimination of ghost beneficiaries.
