The Army soldier who was involved in a shooting incident which took place at the Akmeemana Upananda Vidyalaya has been arrested, Police Spokesmand Ruwan Gunasekera said.
The incident had taken place at about 12.45 pm. Police said the individual had attempted to forcibly enter the Upananda Vidyalaya in Akmeemana when he was stopped and being searched.
At which point he had allegedly attempted to grab the firearm of a soldier on duty at the school when the shooting took place.
The 39-year-old who was injured during the shooting was later rushed to the hospital and eventually succumbed to his injuries at the Karapitiya Hospital.
The deceased is believed to a former member of the Navy Band.
