Former JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe has commenced a hunger strike at Independence Square in Colombo demanding to take an action against the alleged coup attempt on January 09, local media reported. The veteran JVP leader resigned from the party on April 16, saying that the party was intentionally delaying the process of building socialism in the country. Speaking to local media recently, Amarasinghe claimed he was preparing to establish a new party in the near future to guide the JVP in the correct path.
