Speaker Karu Jayasuriya addressing a meeting with members of the Inter-religious society urged the group to come together to combat racist elements looking to bring partiality into the political arena.
The meeting had taken place on December 26 at the Speaker’s residence.
Addressing the meeting, the Speaker requested the clergymen to prevent politicians from using religious places of worship in order to spread racism.
He also called on all those present at the meeting to support and lead the campaign in abolishing the Executive Presidency adding that that the people of this country have been repeatedly calling for the abolishment of the Executive Presidency.
The Speaker said he appreciated the services rendered by Ven. Maduluwave Sobitha Thero saying that he was as an instrumental figure in rallying the people to fight against anti-democratic principles.
