Speaker Karu Jayasuriya left for Malta yesterday (Jan 07) to take part in the Commonwealth Speaker's Conference for 2019.
Mr. Jayasuriya is expected to engage in a crucial discussion with the Chief Secretary of the Commonwealth and the Westminster Foundation which has been providing extensive support to the Sri Lankan Parliament.
The Westminster foundation upon the request of the Speaker had previously provided an opportunity for the members of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), parliamentarians and senior state officials to take part in training programs on the Westminister parliamentary system, the Speaker's office said in a press release.
