Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has informed Parliament that he accepts UPFA MP Mahinda Rajapaksa as Parliament's new Leader of the Opposition.
The Speaker's declaration was read out by Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri in Parliament a short while ago.
Mr Rajapaksa replaces TNA Leader R. Sampanthan as Opposition Leader.
