Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has denied media reports that he had made a written request to be made a Presidential candidate.
Issuing a statement, the Speaker's Media Secretary Chaminda Gamage stated that the Speaker had only issued a statement on September 17 in response to appeals made by various parties calling on him to contest the Presidential Election.
While that statement noted a number of matters based on principles, it was not a statement issued asking to be made a Presidential candidate, the Speaker's Media Secretary emphasized.
