Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said today that he has received death threats afterTuesday s chaotic scenes in Parliament by members of the joint opposition who were demanding that they be recognized as an independent group in the Legislature.
The Speaker said he was not deterred by the threats but said some parliamentary officials too were threatened and urged that the officials be allowed to do their job.
However Mr.Jayasuriya did not hint at who the threats came from.
Later UPFA MP Dulles Allahaperuma who is also a member of the joint opposition urged the Speaker to hold a full inquiry into the incident and said their group does not endorse this kind of behavior.
