The Speaker should reconsider whether it is justifiable or not to file case against parliamentarians and ministers who were involved in recent parliamentary brawls, MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said.
He made these remarks while addressing a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna press briefing in Battaramulla yesterday (Feb 19)
Mr Yapa opined that the manner in which the Speaker's counterparts in other countries have taken their decisions when worse scenes were witnessed in their Parliaments, were examples that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya could follow suit.
"Although cases have been filed only against Parliamentarians the Speaker's conduct at that time was also questionable" he said
MP Priyadarshana Yapa also claimed that the Speaker had breached parliamentary conventions by taking decisions from a corner of the Parliament instead of proceeding towards his chair.
