Speaker Karu Jayasuriya told Parliament today that he would decide on the fate of the No Confidence Motion handed over by members of the Joint Opposition (JO) group against Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake by Thursday.
The Speaker said some objections have been raised against the no confidence motion saying it is “sub judice” or refers to a matter under judicial consideration and therefore cannot be taken up for debate.
Chief Opposition Whip Anura Dissanayaka argued that the Speaker can allow the Motion to be placed on the Order Paper of Parliament and decide on whether to allow it to be taken up for debate or not.
The Speaker however said he would decide on the matter and give a ruling by Thursday.
