Speaker Karu Jayasuriya's office in a statement has said that the Speaker will notify President Maithripala Sirisena regarding the no-confidence motion aginst Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa which was submitted with 122 signatories earlier today.
Issuing a press release, the Speaker noted that the no-confidence motion was passed in Parliament after a majority of MPs raised their hands in favour of the same.
Further the Speaker would take steps to send the a letter to President Sirisena to the effect that the newly sworn in Prime Minister and the Cabinet sworn in by him are unconstitutional and for the President to act accordingly.
