A special dengue eradication campaign will take place in the Western Province this week starting from today (Aug 6) amidst rising tolls of affected patients, the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) said.
According to the NDCU, 50 people have died due to the disease with the number of affected patients standing as high as 35,900 during the last eight months.
NDCU Consultant Physician Dr. Prashila Samaraweera said the special operation would mainly revolve around inspections and clean-up campaigns in a bid to curb the spread of the disease.
Dr. Samaraweera added that a similar countrywide operation will take place next week with the collaboration of the Presidential Task Force on Dengue Prevention and all health officials.
