A special session at the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha was limited to 30 minutes today (Jul 17) after opposition members staged a protest within the chambers this morning.
Today's special session had been convened at 10 am by Chandana Jayachandala, the Chairman, upon a proposal put forward by the opposition of the Pradeshiya Sabha.
However, a tense situation arose as opposition members claimed that the Chairman had included a different schedule in the order paper, which varied from their suggestions to be taken up at the session.
Opposition members raised objections and called for a division over this matter while claiming that the Chairman did not have the legal authority to conduct a session without their proposals.
